Let me set the scene…It is Valentine’s Day 2008 or 2009 (I have lost track of the years as I have been with Garith for so long) and we decide as every other year has been a disaster when we go out for dinner that we would cook together at home.
We started our meal planning, we just had to have a four cheese gnocchi, as it is so decadent and one of our favourite ‘spoil’ meals. Then we would end with a delicious chocolate mousse…this sounded like the perfect meal and I was so excited to get started and make it.
Garith and I went shopping together and bought the best quality ingredients we could find. We didn’t want to spare any expense as we wanted to make this Valentine’s Day super special. We then got home and spent hours in the kitchen making all the elements and dishes perfectly. The dishes were not only delicious but beautifully presented as well. We couldn’t what a good job we had done!
We quickly set the table with a beautiful table cloth, red roses, candles and our best crockery and cutlery.
We then started to get ready, as surely it is not romantic to eat dinner in your old worn out clothes that you have been cooking in. So I put on a pretty new dress, did my hair and ended with a spritz of my favourite Crabtree & Evelyn fragrance – Rose of course! It has such a pure, beautiful and romantic scent…it was just perfect!
We dished up the four cheese gnocchi and sat down to enjoy our meal together. It must have been about three quarters of the way through the gnocchi that I started to feel a little ill…I suddenly became nauseas and broke out in a sweat. I had to go lie down. As time went by I felt more and more like death. Garith being the caring and loving guy he is, sat with me and dabbed my brow with a cool wet cloth. It was at this point, I just knew he loved me more than anything and that we would be together forever. I thought to myself, if he can still love me at my worst then he will love me through everything and anything! So the rest of the evening was spent with me lying in bed and Garith taking care of me.
Yes, it wasn’t the best Valentine’s Day but it wasn’t the worst either. Looking back now, it was a very special moment in our relationship, the realisation that he would do anything for me and I for him!
